The Roma Chronicles Part One
Book One Jasmina - It is the story of a young Bosnian Roma girl who is brutally raped and whose family are murdered. She eventually ends up in a refugee camp in Croatia and falls in love with Ivan one of the camp workers. Darko the best friend of Ivan becomes involved romantically with Ivan's sister Maria. The theme is built upon the premise that innocence has a power to survive in and of itself.
Book Two Darko - The story picks up in book two with Darko revealing that he has Roma roots which he has kept hidden since childhood. The story follows his pilgrimage back to his roots and his reconciliation with his sister who has become a prostitute to support the debts of their mother. The theme develops further the theme of innocence that comes from God has an intrisic power to transform the human condition.
Book Three Milena - The story continues by bringing all the characters together for this story. Stefan, the adopted son of Darko and Maria is a social worker like his step father and his uncle Ivan. The story follows his involvement in the Roma community and his eventual love story with Milena a physically handicapped Bayash Roma in Croatia. The story ends dramatically after a violent series of events as Stefan seeks to rescue Milena from enforced slavery. The same theme of innocence emerges but this time it is seen as having an authority that can not be defeated by power. Innocence does not need to be protected by outside help as the power of God is installed into the essence of innocence itself.
